Doreen Allan - My Art |
|||||
Welcome to my web site. In it I try to give an insight into my art by showing a selection of the artwork I have produced and exhibited.
I was brought up in Newlyn and Penzance, Cornwall.
As a child, my love
of painting developed at school under the teaching of
Alexander MacKenzie.
I complemented this by attending the
Penzance School of Art
when the principal was Edward Bouverie Hoyton. The inspiration for my work stems from my love of both life form and the form and colours of the Cornish landscape I see around me every day. This, coupled with the encouraging tuition I have received from Russell Hedges and the late Colin Scott, gives me the impetus to continue to experiment and to push my work in new directions. A recent development has been my interest in sculpture. I find the design and composition of the model helps me develop my painting skills, particularly with my life forms. I am a member of the St Ives Arts Club Society and a keen supporter of the "Friends of Penzance Art School", a group dedicated to ensuring the continued use of the Art School for all its students.
